This Surprised Me...
I found this on a blog I found off the sidebar of Vivian's blog (Bits and Pieces) and thought it was interesting...."How Many People in the United States Have My Name?"
You enter your first name and last name and the site tells you how many other folks in the U.S. share your first name, how many share your last name, and how many share BOTH your first and last name. The results for our family? 57 other people have the same name (first and last) as me (That was a total shocker to me...I would never have guessed there were that many other people with my name out there); 12 other people have the same first and last name that Grant has (he had met one of those people when he was in junior high school at R.A. camp...they were the same age, from the same state and wound up being assigned to the same cabin at camp!); only 4 other people share Darcy's name; 127 people share Doug's name; and Rayna is the only person in the United States that has her first and last name! (So we did good with HER name!) I think I can be pretty sure that if we had been able to put the MIDDLE names into the equation, Darcy and Doug would have been the only ones with their names, too....Lin WeiQian (for Darcy) .... JenGwo (for Doug).... Lin ChunFang (for Rayna).

So fun to find that singer there!! Now you've got me curious about her - never heard of her before!! What a great trip!
She is a very prominent professional bluegrass singer and mandolin picker who has performed at the Grand Ole Opry numerous times. Bluegrass doesn't really get any commercial airplay on the radio so folks who aren't already bluegrass fans, aren't likely to know her. A few bluegrassers have crossed over somewhat into the country music arena (like Alison Kraus & Union Station) and still remained mostly bluegrass...but that is a rarity. Most of the bluegrassers who cross over just become country performers and leave their bluegrass roots behind in order to be more marketable...like Ricky Skaggs (who has since returned to his roots), Vince Gill, Chris Hillman (founding member of the Byrds), Marty Stewart, Joe Diffy, etc.
Jerry Garcia dabbled in bluegrass. (Two of the Dixie Chics started out in bluegrass--in fact, my husband has home video footage of Rhonda Vincent singing with those two long before they ever became well known or had recording contracts. We liked their singing before we were disappointed by their politics and their behavior.)
People you have probably heard of who are fans of bluegrass themselves are Emmy Lou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Steve Martin (he's an excellent banjo picker), Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley was a fan of Bill Monroe's music (Bill being the "Father of Bluegrass"), etc.
You may have heard songs by "Nickel Creek" on the radio. They began as hard-core bluegrassers, but they have gotten way off the path of bluegrass in recent years.
As far as Rhonda Vincent goes...she grew up performing in a family bluegrass group called "The Sally Mountain Show" which was very well known regionally. They were based out of Kirksville, Missouri. Rhonda records on the Rounder label these days.
