Notes on Harbor from Elisabeth:

Update from Elisabeth this morning:

Harbor passed the trial off of ECMO and his heart rate stayed in the 150's.
They have scheduled surgery to remove the ECMO tubes from his artery this afternoon. They are trying to put a dialysis catheter in the same artery if it's in good enough shape. They put him on dialysis because of the extra fluid, and now his kidneys have slowed, but they expected that. They're saying they should come back. We're not sure what time the surgery will happen, but it should be after noon today.

The surgery is dangerous, but we are so excited to see him well enough to come off of the awful machine. Please pray for him, for no surgery complications. So far the cultures haven't come back positive. :)

Update from Elisabeth at 8:30pm:
Harbor made it through the surgery well. The next 24-48 hours are crucial as he adjusts to oxygenating his own blood, a new dialysis machine and ventilator settings. They were able to put the dialysis lines into the same arteries they took the ECMO out of. His oxygen numbers looked great when we left tonight. His blood pressure has been going a little low, and they are having to turn his ventilator higher than they'd like to keep carbon dioxide from building up in his blood. They want to keep the vent lower to prevent his lungs popping again. That would be an awful setback at this point. He is doing much better right now than he was before they put him on ECMO.
The duct in his heart closed and he isn't mixing good and bad blood much now.

Please pray his blood pressure and heart rate will be good (his heart rate was in the 140s when we left which is great).
Please pray he lungs would keep healing despite having to work now. The ventilator can hurt them. Long times on the ventilator are bad.
Please praise God for preserving his life again!! I cried when they came out and said things went well-- today was so very scary. Cliff is getting used to wet shirts.
Please pray his fluid balance will be right- he keeps having too much fluid in the tissues and not enough in the veins- this is due to pulmanary hypertension. This leads to blood pressure and heart rate issues and keeps lungs from healing as quickly as we'd like.
Tonight may be rocky as he adjusts. Please pray for tonight.

Thank you! He is getting better!
