Darcy Debuts at Waitressing
Tonight, Darcy got a taste of waitressing...and she rather enjoyed it! FCCLA had a fundraiser at Pizza Hut. Darcy and a few of her classmates staffed the Pizza Hut tonight and got a cut of the sales and also got any of the tips that were dedicated to them. They made about $125 in tips alone!
Of course Grant, Rayna, Doug, and I had to head over to Pizza Hut to eat tonight! Darcy and Andrew McClard were our waitress/waiter team! They did a great job! (Except our waitress kept swiping slices of our pizza...and she neglected refilling my Dr. Pepper! I got back at her by beating her at Phase 10 tonight after her shift! Thankfully, Andrew WAS conscientious on the whole refilling my Dr. Pepper thing!)
We ordered bread sticks and a large thin crust three top (Canadian Bacon, Green Peppers, Onion) and a large hand tossed Meat Lover's. We hadn't had "real" pizza in ages...so, it was especially delicious tonight! It was fun being there, too, since we knew nearly everyone in the crowded restaurant...definitely the home-town crowd coming out to support their FCCLA students!
Darcy ran into an old friend, too...she discovered that Jeff (one of the SBU PT students who went on the medical mission trip with us to El Salvador last summer) works at Pizza Hut making deliveries and washing dishes. She was delighted to run into him tonight! Later, when she and I were playing Phase Ten, we were both laughing, reciting, "Did you see that bat? It was THAT big!" "HOW BIG was it?" "THAT big!"...remembering the all the joking last summer when Darcy and I were playing International Rules UNO with a few of the SBU students and nearly all of the translators. The entire time we played game after game of International Rules Uno, Jeff continued to work out noisily right next to the table where we were gathered (pool-side) doing one arm push-ups and all kinds of ridiculously impossible stuff hour after hour without so much as a moment's rest. I remember thinking to myself, "Surely he has to wear out SOMETIME!" Then, as evening fell, an ENORMOUS bat (a whole lot bigger than I ever knew God made them!) buzzed us, nearly colliding into us and some one excitedly yelled, "Did you see that bat?" Jeff, jumping up from the ground where he had been doing yet another one-armed push-up, exclaimed, "Yeah! It was THAT big" (flexing his huge glistening biceps as he gestured the bat's size with both arms). Of course everyone at the table immediately recognized that Mr. Work Out was just a bit delighted to have an excuse to ripple his muscles and so we all started making exaggerated gestures, flexing our own pathetic muscles teasingly as we re-asked him, "HOW BIG was that bat, Jeff!" We laughed so long and hard over that...Jeff laughing as harder than any of us! And all the rest of the evening one or the other of us would suddenly work into the conversation, "and HOW BIG was that bat?" and everyone would convulse with laughter all over again! A precious memory of our time together in El Salvador!
